January's Charity Donation

This month's chosen charity is The Spinal Injuries Association, and was the choice of Stuart Gregory.

Stuart has the following to say about this charity and why it's especially important to him.

"Having had the shock of being personally diagnosed with severe spinal problems that affected my life in a big way, I would like to support others through this difficult problem. I was fortunate in having my problems – both neck and lower spine – found and operated on before permanent paralysis occurred. My surgeons and their teams at Salford Royal Hospital were heroes, and I will be forever thankful to them. The problems when spinal issues occur are devastating; personal life, career, home life, ambitions and mental health are all severely affected. Reliance on people around you are huge as mobility and personal life functions reduce dramatically. I was lucky in that many of my problems have been resolved, but I still have further work needed. However, other people are not so fortunate. I hope the donation helps others to get the assistance and support they need. This could be counselling, mental care, equipment or physical assistance for them and their Carers. It will also go towards more research and support into spinal issues that affect so many. Finally, it is the least that can be done to recognise the skill and dedication of the spinal surgeons and teams supporting them working with such a delicate area as the spinal cord and nerves."
